School holiday trip to the water slides and ice skating
Every December we do something different that is fun and exciting for our kids, and this year we decided to go to the iconic Muizenberg Water Slides. The irony of not a single one of our youth ever having gone on the slides ($) despite them walking past them everyday to come surf, was a big motivator to change that!
On the day the sun was shining and wind was low, a whopping 36 very excited youngsters turned up at the Lounge, and walked down with the Youth Leaders. For the next 2 hours we took over the slides, shrieking and laughing with delight, doing flips, riding tandem, going backwards, kids being kids and it was beautiful to see.
We shared some snacks (I’ve never seen packs of chips vanish at such speed) and Idun from Germany sponsored an ice cream for everyone.
It was a great priviledge to help facilitate an action that brought so much joy to these kids, and feels good that no longer will they walk by other kids playing on the water slides, and wonder what its like 🙂
That same evening we took the Youth Leaders (who were not initially interested in the water slides as they are all 18+, but ended up being the biggest frothers on the slides!) to experience another form of water, the ice-rink at Grand West. Place was packed on a Fridays night, and it was hilarious watching everybodies varying skill levels. Amazingly some guys picked it up straight away, others took abit more time to make a loop 😉 And Uzzi was like a floating butterfly, a hidden talent many of us never knew he had. Again, awesome fun together and a cool experience for all of us.
